TGIFC361 - A pop of color using "What's Cookin'"

Hello Crafty Friends! Welcome, welcome!!!

This week I have a combo of projects that I created as part of the TGIF Challenges #361 - Color Pop.

My take on the challenge was to create something using the neutral colors that get incorporated with Farmhouse Decor. I've seen black & white gingham pattern, wood, burlap, chalkboard, white and a touch of soft green tones such as the example I show below.

I really wanted to put my stamp set - What's Cookin' Bundle to good use before it retires from the Stampin' UP! 2021-2022 Annual Catalog at the end of April (so sad!).

Side note: There's a lot of retiring products being used here and the "What's Cookin' Bundle" is no longer available. Only the dies show to be available. You can take a look at what's retiring when you check my blog post or go to my Online Store.

So, with all that said, I created a 12"x12" frame piece and a matching card. Although the Pop of Color doesn't scream at you, I believe the centerpiece of Just Jade (also retiring) along with the Daffodil Delight gingham ribbon added a slight pop of color to each project sample. That Just Jade color really does draw the eye, don't you think?

Frame-piece making Tips:

  • The finished size is 12"x12". I didn't put it in a frame but I believe a dark wood frame or even a solid black frame would look great for this piece.
  • I used a layout that was shared by a fellow SU! demonstrator, Sandy McManus
    • The dimensions for all the pieces are as follows:
      1- 3"x3", 4- 2"x2", 4- 1-1/2" x 1-1/2", 4- 1-1/4" x 1-1/4", 16- 1"x1"

Card-making Tips:

This card is very simple and clean and doesn't take very long to assemble in comparison to the frame-piece.

  • The card finished size is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2".
  • The Just Jade piece measures 2-1/4" x 4"
  • Randomly stamp the veggies image onto the Just Jade cardstock piece using Just Jade ink.
  • The cutting board that is cut from the In Good Taste DSP, is adhered onto the Just Jade piece with dimensionals.
  • The 6" piece of Black & White Gingham Ribbon was colored using a dark Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend.
  • The black and white gingham paper is from the Pattern Party Host DSP (retiring)
  • For the inside of the card, some of the same elements were brought in.
  • For the spoon and bowl, cut a slit in the center and towards the top of the bowl so you can slightly insert the spoon. Trim the spoon handle that hangs off the edge of the card.

I've certainly enjoyed creating this week's combo of projects using the What's Cookin' Bundle and am very sad it's going away!

TGIFC360 - Simple Stamping for Easter

 Hello, Hello Crafty Friends!

I'm back this week to share with you my latest creation using TGIF Challenges' Simple Stamping challenge.

If you're not familiar with the term Simple Stamping, this means that you only are to use stamps, paper, ink, and maybe even an embellishment.

For a lot of avid/advanced crafters, it can certainly be a challenge to go simple without adding all the layers! This was the case for me this week. However, I was relieved to keep it simple since I had a few of these to make for a group of friends.

I happened to have some leftover Clear Tiny Treat Boxes (retired) in my Packaging stash so I was able to put together a masculine (Pear Pizzaz) and feminine (Highland Heather) version of an Easter treat box as you see below. I love how simple and cute they came out!

Since these treat boxes are retired, you can certainly use the 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" Acetate Boxes or even the Simply Classic Treat Boxes but keep in mind that the dimensions I describe below will be different.

Treat-Box Making Tips:

  • Assemble the treat box and fill it with your choice of treats. In my case, I filled it with the ROLO caramel chocolate candies from WalMart.
  • Using the Flowering Fields DSP, cut a 0.5" x 8" strip to adhere around the bottom of the assembled treat box.
  • From the same DSP, cut a 1-7/8" x 1-7/8" to adhere to the top of the treat box.
  • Cut a 17" piece of the Evening Evergreen Windowpane Check ribbon to wrap around the treat box.
    • Use a glue dot behind the ribbon and onto the two sides of the box to help keep the ribbon in place once it gets untied by the recipient.
  • Stamp the "Happy Easter" greeting from the Celebrating You stamp set onto a 3/4" x 1-1/4" piece of Basic White Cardstock. Mat it with a piece of DSP that measures 7/8" x 2-1/4" then flag the ends.
  • Finish off the treat box with the adorable Brushed Brass Butterflies embellishment.

As an alternative, if you'd like to get a little outside of the Simple Stamping boundaries, you can use the Cloud Punch (love this thing!):

  1. BEFORE punching the paper, use the brush side of your coordinating color of Stampin' Write Marker to trace the outline of the shape while the paper is inserted into the punch.
  2. Punch the cloud out and adhere it to the front of the treat box then stamp your sentiment and add a little embellishment.

As always, I thank you for stopping by this week's blog post and hope you are inspired to create an Easter Treat to give away!

Until next time...

Spring Bunny-punch-art Frame

 Hello Crafty Friends!

I have a different project for you today. Instead of a card design, I put together a cute little spring frame featuring some bunny-punch-art and spring colors! I sure hope you love it as much as I do!

This came together as part of a Stampin' UP! Challenge - #ConceptArtCreativeChallenge that uses 5 different Stampin' UP! colors: Daffodil Delight, Polished Pink, Pool Party, Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple Green.

One thing I failed to mention in my video tutorial is that I had a layout in mind already and it came from the CUTEST little frame that I saw at Kohl's.

I knew I wanted to recreate this frame using some Stampin' UP! supplies that I already had on hand so I wouldn't have to spend $30+ on the one at Kohl's (tee-hee).

This color challenge gave me the more reason to create a spring-inspired frame so I ventured to my craft desk!

I have put together a Supplies & Dimensions List for you located in the Free Tutorials tab of this blog page. So, gather your supplies and create this frame along with me in the video tutorial below. This would look cute on your front door.

Thank you SO MUCH for creating with me and I wish you a blessed weekend!

Until next time ...
