Quilled sampler with "Cup of Tea"

Hello crafty friends!

It was a great and out-of-the-ordinary week for Spring Break for our family and we're diving into the first week of Spring! It sure doesn't feel that way in the Dallas, TX area. It's been cold and cloudy this week, but I'm hopeful this will turn around soon!

I want to share a quilled sampler I created this past week as part of Stampin' UP!'s Creative Challenge using 1 of the color combos, as shown below. The color combo on the right includes: Crushed Curry, Pool Party, Starry Sky, and Crumb Cake.

I had been itching to use an opportunity to use Paper Quilling for something, so I chose to combine the Creative challenge with some quilling to create a coffee cup sampler. I do realize that the Cup of Tea stamp set is for tea cups but I changed it up a little and defined them as coffee cups.

This sampler did take a little time as I had to get re-acquainted with Paper Quilling. It's been MANY years since I've used this technique. I do LOVE the outcome every. single.time!

Sampler-making Tips:

  • The finished size is 8" x 8" from Crumb Cake Cardstock (CS).
  • The largest squares measure 3.5" x 3.5" (in Basic White CS) followed by 3-3/8" x 3-3/8" (in Pool Party, Starry Sky, or Crushed Curry CS) then 3" x 3" (in Basic White CS).
  • Use the flowery cup image from the Cup of Tea stamp set to stamp it onto the 3" square Basic White CS. Be sure to stamp off so that you'll get a light image showing, just enough to give you a template for your quilling.
  • Cut 1/4" wide strips of your DSP (cardstock was too thick for my quilling tool). Most of my strips were 6" long but some were 3" long and others 2.5" long, depending on what shape you're quilling. The cup outline is longer than 6" so you'll need to adhere another strip at the end to complete the shape.
  • It's very important to first prepare the outlines by shaping the paper strip without any glue involved. After shaping the outline, adhere it with a very thin line of glue. I used Tombow glue. Next, will be the quilled leaves will be adhered inside the cup outline to match with the stamped image. Last will be the quilled "steam" pieces and the "coffee beans".
  • The following colors are used for the different elements:
    • coffee cup on the top left square uses the Pool Party DSP from the Design a Daydream DSP stack.
    • The bottom left coffee cup uses the 2022-2024 In-Color DSP.
    • The bottom right coffee cup uses the Regals DSP pack.
    • The "steam" pieces are made using the Crumb Cake paper from the Neutrals DSP pack.
    • The "coffee beans" and "Coffee" sentiment are made using the Early espresso paper from the Neutrals DSP pack.
